"கனவு மெய்ப்பட்டது" - A Dream (KANAVU) Came True

Everyone admires and love their school, so as I. Not only me, every single soul in my school will love San Jose and will do anything for our school. Just going back to my school days, there are many crazy things, unthoughtful mistakes, great lessons, happy moments and many many, which i can recollect. One such thing I can remember is, what I did along with one of my friends Asok Kalidas (my classmate right from LKG till 10th and later my college mate).

This guy, Asok, is such a comic and also a serious person. He does all things in a straight and a different manner. He used to give many suggestions or ideas like we can start a Science Club or Quiz Club in our School. He along with one my senior friends Sundara Velavan(another person who was a heroic figure in our school), my brother Sriram , my friend Midhun used to discuss on science, though it was not officially a Science club. He is a very sincere and innocent fellow then.

I was an average student who used to struggle to clear my exams then, I don't know where we got inspiration or an idea. I basically like helping. So, I had  just started(did nothing) a small group called Ayyappa Social Service. It was a time, we don't know what is a document and all such stuff. Inspite, with help of my senior Lakshmi Priyadharshini, we prepared document in written which gives the objects of the group, rules and regulation to the group.

One day when both of us were discussing, we decided to change the name as Children Social Service(CSS), as Ayyappa is a god in Hindu Mythology. This time, we went a step ahead, Asok got a Stamp Paper and we wrote all the objects of our group, something similar to a deed. We were carrying this stamp paper in school during the class of 8th. These things caught the eyes of a staff and our stamp paper was taken away from us. Later it was returned to me, when we told we wont do things like that.

Starting an Organization like group and help the needy was always Asok's and my idea in school days from the class of 8th( Even now i feel. every student or child would have felt the same at-least once). Even in college, clubs like NSS and Nature Club helped not only me, but who gave their time to help others,  to get more exposure to the society and ideas on how things are, how to do things. Meanwhile, spending the days with my mentor and guru right from my school days, without him I cannot be in a position what I am today, not only me but many. My friends in college were also equally interested in servicing people, I can give few famous names like Neelamani, Ganesh, Prathap, Akila, Veronica, Banu, Mani Muthu, Gokul, Gowri, Gopi, Anand, etc., my seniors Pradeep, Sindhu, Manju. We all equally felt and still believe we could do something together to uplift the society.

I felt college days was not the right time to start a trust like thing, we cannot completely get into this. Everyone must settle, then only  people can contribute financially, more importantly their TIME.

Once my college got over, i started to collect details like how to start a trust. Now comes a million dollar question, Trust, for what? Providing food to someone, Can we give daily?, Clean the roads, will be clean forever? We must do something that may not get its fruit then, but years and years later. Education is the only means which can stop poverty and corruption, make a complete human being, a developed country through developing oneself. What kind of education? Quality and Life education, not the bookish and Kachara exam clearing education. Our main focus must be on education, with suggestions from a people from different background, I decided the name of the trust as "KANAVU - கனவு". Let for time being the focus be on children's and students in Mettupalayam. Between one of my friend Akila along with her friends started a trust called Vazhigal Aayiram.

We were helping students in making education interesting, some career guidance all these years. Here "WE" includes my friends, lovable seniors and juniors with some mentoring. We planned to do the same things we were doing in a small place in a larger scale and decided to start the Trust in Mettupalayam (my home town). Midhun, Khadhar, Noor, Nandha, Sijo, my childhood friends supported me in getting the trust registered and their involvement was greater than I expected.

Preparing the Deed of a Trust is not a simple task, so I planned to get a sample deed from my friend Akila. It took us 2 weeks to understand what was written in the deed. Section 11(5), Section 13 of Income tax Act was all Greek and Latin to us. Keeping that as a sample, we made our Deed. We took it to a lawyer to know what the section was all about. He explained those sections and suggested few corrections, in software terms the deed was now Deed_V1.1.

When i was explaining the contents of the deed, my friend Sijo stopped me by saying "Why cant the deed be in simple English than which has more law terms?" I realized he was correct. Review after review made the deed to change as Deed_V2.0, Deed_V2.1, Deed_V2.2, Deed_V3, Deed_V4. Finally, we were satisfied with now, what ever is in the deed  we understood it, because each and every time we read and corrected it on our own with the some help.

Oct 25, 2011 is the date we fixed, when we will register the trust as Diwali holidays are coming on. Thank god! Today is the day we were looking for a long time as we got KANAVU registered and moreover it is my friend Noor's Birthday. The time I am writing this post, the Trust is already registered.

Yes. "KANAVU - கனவு" is now  "NANAVU - நனவு".  Thanks for all good hearts who helped us to realize our dream.

If you are a person, who wants to give something back to your society and make a difference the way people live. Just give us your TIME and join us. We promise to make many students கனவு as நனவு by making yours so.

The First Female Driver of Namma Metro is a Local Celebrity

Priyanka N is promoting the importance of education in her village.

On 21 October, 2011 the maiden voyage of the Namma Metro was piloted by 21-year old Priyanka N in Bangalore. As the first technical diploma holder from her village, Priyanka is using her newfound recognition to promote education. “My village people are proud of me, so now they are willing to listen.” With her encouragement, 14 children from her village have already joined Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth (VVMVP) Rural School, only three bus stops away from her small village on Kanakpura Road, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Crediting her education:

The stepping stones to Priyanka’s success were laid at VVMVP Rural School, an initiative of The Art of Living education and charity trust, where Priyanka says she spent “three privileged years.” “Here more facilities for students are provided: the van facility, food facility, and good teaching faculties are there, which is really helpful for the students,” says Priyanka. VVMVP provides free education, transportation, uniforms, books, stationery, and mid-day meals to 2000 children from 51 villages. From the success of one school, 86 more rural schools have been set up across the country.
Now a celebrity in her own right, Priyanka has returned to her school to motivate the students. “My HM (Headmaster Gangadhar) was always encouraging me to go for debate competitions, telling me, ‘Take leadership in your class, and make a group, which can be sent to do talent activities, so you choose that.’ He was always giving me responsibilities,” she says.

Overcoming a language barrier:

After graduating from VVMVP, Priyanka enrolled in APS Polytechnic for her technical diploma. One month into the course, she was having difficulties following the English medium. The teachers from VVMVP extended their help to ensure a smooth transition for their graduate. “My HM presented me with four grammar books, one for vocabulary, a dictionary, and two grammar books. So, I have studied those books.” Within a short time, Priyanka gained a substantial command over English, enabling her to become one of the toppers at APS Technical College.

A dream to start her own school:

Due to a lack of financial resources, Priyanka could not continue toward a higher university degree. Through working with the Namma Metro, she plans to finance her studies and will join engineering classes in the evenings.Encouraged by her mother, Priyanka dreams of opening her own school to inspire children “to lead life in a good way - a good way in the family and society,” Priyanka says. She adds, “I want them to select the children to teach them the importance of education. I have a plan for that in my village. I want to educate at least 10 children.”

From a student to a local celebrity and still “learning every day,” Priyanka is blazing trails as an inspiration to many.
